Congratulations to Julia Griesbach, a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Biomechanics, who was selected for an ASBMR 2023 Young Investigator Travel Grant for her abstract “Effects combining mechanical loading with sclerostin antibody, parathyroid hormone, or bisphosphonate treatment on mechanoregulation in trabecular bone in mice”. The Travel Grants are given to the top Young Investigator members presenting at the ASBMR 2023 Annual Meeting.

Congratulations to Dilara Yilmaz, a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Biomechanics, who was selected for an ASBMR 2023 Young Investigator Travel Grant for her abstract “Prematurely Aging PolgA Mice Exhibit Sex-specific Hallmarks of Musculoskeletal Aging”. The Travel Grants are given top Young Investigator members who will be presenting at the ASBMR 2023 Annual Meeting and include a $750 contribution to support travel to the meeting in Vancouver this October.

Congratulations to Francisco Correia Marques, a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Biomechanics, who was selected for the 2023 ESB Student Award from the European Society of Biomechanics for his abstract “A correlative multimodal imaging approach for spatial transcriptomics mechanoregulation analysis”.

Congratulations to our own Drs. Gian Schädli and Chris Steffi from CompagOs for winning CHF 150,000 at the final stage of Venture Kick. Aiming to overcome the limitations of traditional animal and 2D culture models, the ETH spinn-off is developing an advanced platform that will enable in vitro drug efficacy testing on human patient-specific bone cancer models that more closely replicate the relevant physiological conditions.

Outstanding doctoral theses at ETH Zurich are honoured with the Silver Medal. We are delighted to announce that Dr. Deepak Ravi has been awarded with the Silver Medal for this dissertation titled “Benchmarking human locomotor adaptation in time and magnitude: from perturbations to recovery”.

Congratulations to Rosa Visscher and team, who got awarded the first price for their preliminary results towards evaluation of developmental trajectories in gait variability during the first Swiss Academy for Childhood Disorders Research Day. The price entails 1'800 CHF sponsored by the Anna Müller Grocholski foundation.

Congratulations to Professor Stephen Ferguson, who has received the prestigious teaching award Golden Owl for D-HEST! The Golden Owl is awarded each year by the student organization VSETH on the occasion of the ETH Day.

Congratulations to Tanja Bleuler, who got awarded the first price for best master presentation this year at the student research day of the University Children's Hospital Basel for her research on "Stop tip-toeing around toe-walking - a feasibility study".

Prof. Ralph Müller has won the Dandelion Entrepreneurship Award 2021 for the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich. He was honored not only for his entrepreneurial spirit and but also for his active encouragement of staff and students alike to create spin-outs. The Dandelion Entrepreneurship Award recognizes professors for their outstanding efforts to promote entrepreneurship at ETH Zurich and was given for the first time this year by ETH Entrepreneur Club and ETH AI Center.

Congratulations to Jenny Gehlen, who was selected as the Global Winner in the 2021 Global Undergraduate Award program for her Bachelor Thesis entitled "Functional Analysis of Volumetrically 3D Bioprinted Bone-like Tissues", which she conducted in the Laboratory for Bone Biomechanics at ETH Zurich with Dr. Xiao-Hua Qin as her advisor.  

Congratulations to Neashan Mathavan for being selected to receive a 2021 ASBMR Young Investigator Award for his abstract presentation "Individualized cyclic mechanical loading significantly augments the regenerative response of bone in a mouse model of premature aging".

Congratulations to Dr. Barbara Postolka, Dr. Pascal Schütz and team who are the winners of this year’s International Society of Biomechanics Clinical Biomechanics Award paper entitled:“Tibio-femoral kinematics of natural versus replaced knees – A comparison using dynamic videofluoroscopy”.

Congratulations to Dr. Jianhua Zhang, who was selected as the winner of an Acta Student Award for his primary contribution to the manuscript "Optimization of mechanical stiffness and cell density of 3D bioprinted cell-laden scaffolds improves extracellular matrix mineralization and cellular organization for bone tissue engineering", which was published last year in Acta Biomaterialia.

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. William (Bill) Taylor has been elected as a fellow of European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES) society.

Congratulations to Dilara Yilmaz, a doctorand at the Institute for Biomechanics, who was selected for a 2021 ECTS Travel Award from the European Calcified Tissue Society for her abstract “CRISPR/Cas9 Mediated Dual Fluorescent Reporter Mice to Study Spatial Bone Genomics of Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts in the Local In Vivo Environment”.  

Mr. Giancarlo Crameri, a Master's student supervised by Prof. William R. Taylor, was awarded with the ETH Medal for outstanding master's thesis.  

Congratulations to Daniel Greenfeld, who was awarded an ETH Medal for Outstanding Master Thesis for his project entitled “Biomechanical modeling of the hip range of motion”, which he completed at Stryker with Dr. Floor Lambers as his advisor.

Congratulations to Dr. Saša Cukovic, who received a prestigious Marie Skodowska Curie Individual Fellowship from the European Commission to fund his cutting-edge postdoctoral research "From Skin to Skeleton: Revolutionary Contactless and Non-Ionizing 3D Digital Diagnosis and Monitoring of Spinal Disorders in Adolescents - ScolioSIM" at the Institute for Biomechanics.

Big congrats to Qiang Zhang and Deepak Ravi for securing their individual AO Research Opportunity Awards (supported by AO Foundation and ETH Foundation) for the year 2020.

We are pleased to announce that Rosa Visscher, a doctoral student at the Institute for Biomechanics was selected for the ISB Student Technical Group Travel Grant 2019 to attend the XVII International Symposium on Computer Simulation in Biomechanics in Alberta, Canada. 

Congratulations to Nina Derron, who was awarded an ETH Medal for Outstanding Master Thesis for her project entitled "Osteocyte morphological and functional responses to lacuno-canalicular geometry in a micro-3D printed osteocyte model". 

Prof. Ralph Müller is the recipient of this year’s ESB Huiskes Medal - the most significant award from the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB).

We are pleased to announce that Deepak Ravi, a doctoral student at the Institute for Biomechanics was selected for the ISB Student Congress Travel Grant 2019 to attend the XXVII Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics in Calgary, Canada. 

Prof. Ralph Müller is the recipient of this year’s Muybridge Award, which is the most prestigious award from the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB). It is awarded for career achievements in biomechanics. The award is named after Eadward Muybridge (1830-1904), who was the first to use cinematography for the study of human and animal movement.

Thomas Zumbrunn has been awarded an ETH Pioneer Fellowship to develop his concept of a fracture-specific bone plate towards commercialisation. Congratulations Thomas! 

Congratulations to Felicitas Flohr and Nicholas Ohs, who were both selected for the QMSKI Young Investigator Award for attending the 22nd International Workshop on Quantitative Musculoskeletal Imaging (QMSKI), which will take place from February 24 to March 1 in Lake Louise, Canada.

It is our pleasure to announce that the PhD thesis of Thomas Zumbrunn, titled “Challenges in the Design of Biomimetic Orthopaedic Implants: Next Generation Knee Arthroplasty”, was awarded the ETH Medal. Congratulations Thomas!
