Research area

My research focuses on CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing of chondrocytes to improve cartilage regeneration. With the use of cutting-edge tissue engineering techniques, my ultimate goal is the development of successful clinical strategies for cartilage repair.

Simone Ponta is a PhD student in the team of Marcy Zenobi-Wong at the Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication Laboratory. Simone studied Biotechnology and received his Bachelor's degree from Università del Piemonte Orientale, Italy, in 2020.  He wrote his Bachelor's thesis in a Biotechnology startup in Berlin, as part of the Erasmus+ traineeship program. Simone then received his Master of Science degree in Biology from ETH Zürich in 2022. He carried out his Master's thesis in the group of Jacob Corn, focusing on CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing for the treatment of beta-hemoglobinopathies.
